Magnesium

💫 Around here we love Magnesium! It is an essential mineral that is vital but is often deficient in many people.

🏝️ As I have already told many of my patients, if I was stuck on a deserted island and could only bring one supplement with me it would be Magnesium 💚

🛁It helps to regulate the production of our stress hormone cortisol and promotes more GABA, our main neurotransmitter that has calming effects on our brains. We call it the “relaxation mineral” because it helps relax our muscles and calms us down, both of which are things we could probably all benefit from more often!

Different types:

❕ Magnesium Citrate: Alleviates constipation

❕ Magnesium Oxide: Lower absorption, short term relief for heart burn and constipation

❕ Magnesium Gylcinate: Helps with sleep, headaches, and anxiety (gentle on the stomach!)

❕ Magnesium Malate: Helps with fatigue and muscle pain

❕ Magnesium Taurate: Heart health, regulates blood pressure and blood sugar

❕ Magnesium Threonate: Mood and brain function (permeates blood-brain barrier)

Here’s some benefits & what we love about it:

➡️ In charge of MANY different processes in the body

➡️ Supports immune system

➡️ Needed for hormone balancing

➡️ Regulates blood sugar levels

➡️ Helps reduce histamine

➡️ Maintains nerve and muscle function

➡️ Helps with sleep and recovery

➡️ Helps bones remain strong

➡️ Regulates heart rhythms

Risk:

➡️ Loose 💩 - take as tolerated to bowel tolerance.

➡️ Need adequate kidney function to process and regulate

Make sure you to get enough magnesium in your diet, and/or consider taking supplements to support your overall health 🥦🥑

My two personal favorites that I take everyday are Pure Encapsulations Magnesium Glycinate & Designs for Health Magnesium Malate.
