Curcumin
Mar 15, 2023Every month we will pick a supplement that we commonly use here at Breakthrough Functional. We discuss the why, the risk, the benefits, and what we love about these particular supplements.
As requested- our Supplement of the month for March is about decreasing inflammation! One of the best ways to do that is by taking or eating Turmeric. It is known for its head to toe ANTI-inflammatory & ANTI-OXIDANT benefits. Turmeric is an ancient spice that has been used to treat many diseases throughout history in traditional Chinese and Indian medicine. β¨ββββββββ
Curcumin is the active ingredient in turmeric, making it one of the most anti-inflammatory and powerful herbs. π₯
Studies conducted on Curcumin have shown its ability to combat inflammation and enhance the metabolism in multiple ways. It can help with diseases such as arthritis, gut health, and blood sugar levels. Additionally, research has shown it can lead to a reduction of approximately 5% of body fat and a decrease of one inch around the waistline. πββββββββ
Curcmin stands out for its potential to promote brain health, given that Alzheimer’s disease is 4 x more prevalent in the US than in India. Some specialists believe it is because curry is such a major part of Indian cuisine, and Curcmin is a primary ingredient in curry powder.
Curcumin has been shown to improve blood flow to the brain and increase the level of a protein that supports the maintenance and growth of brain cells and the pathway that connects them! π§
Here are some more benefits & what else we love about it:
β‘οΈ Reduce inflammation and body aches
β‘οΈ Soothe stomach irritability
β‘οΈ Good for skin health by removing impurities
β‘οΈ Strengthen weakened immune systems
Risk:
β‘οΈ Too much turmeric (think really high supplement doses) is not good for the body and in excess can be linked to kidney stones
β‘οΈ Too much of a good thing can actually be a bad thing
Make sure you check out Turmeric powder or root to add to your diet, and/or consider taking supplements to support your overall health π½οΈ
Some ideas on how to add turmeric spice to your life:
π₯ Sprinkle on vegetables before roasting
π₯ Add to oil in pan before making a stir fry
π₯ Use fresh or ground turmeric in bone broth or vegetable broth
βοΈ Prepare a tea: Turmeric with cinnamon and ginger in water, add milk of your choice
My two personal favorites that I take as needed are: Black Cumin Seed and Curcmin Elite by Life Extensions and Curapro 750 by Euromedica.
