It is our mission is to restore each individual to their optimal state of health. About Breakthrough's Team

Dr. Mackenzie Jones, Nurse Practitioner
Mackenzie Jones, DNP, FNP-BC, graduated from UNC-Wilmington with her BSN in Nursing and continued her medical training at East Carolina University to obtain her Doctorate of Nursing Practice and Family Nurse Practitioner License. She is board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner and became certified in functional medicine upon graduating from the School of Applied Functional Medicine in 2024. Additionally, she has been specializing in and practicing functional medicine since 2019.
Mackenzie began her own health journey back in 2010 after being hospitalized with ulcerative colitis. She was placed on strong antibiotics and opioids that left her ill. After realizing her symptoms persisted despite taking 7 different prescriptions with minimal improvement she came to the conclusion this was not a way she wanted to live. She became frustrated with the options offered by conventional medicine and wanted to heal in a holistic manner. After finding a functional doctor in Winston Salem, her symptoms improved 50 % in 2 weeks. She went from barely functioning, sleeping 12 hours a day, suffering with joint pain, acne, irritable bowel syndrome, to living her life again. She then said to herself, “This is what I am going to devote my life to, helping others heal."
Mackenzie began training with another functional medicine practitioner in town in 2019 and treated many patients at Trinity Wellness Center until early 2023. She has completed her three year certification from the School of Applied Functional Medicine (SAFM), which teaches healthcare professionals to get to the root cause of lifestyle-driven disease through a patient centered, systems biology approach. She is also a member of the Neil Nathan's Functional Mentorship and regularly attends continuing education conferences.
“Studying functional medicine has opened up a new world to me. I look at disease differently, and my “toolbox” to treat disease continues to grow. It is truly an honor to study medicine and all the complementary therapies that may enhance the lives of my patients.”

Justine Capps, Health Coach
Justine Capps, is a registered nurse and a board-certified nurse coach through the American Holistic Nurses Credentialing Corporation.
Justine began her own health journey in 2015 when she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Now on the receiving end of healthcare, she realized how many others like herself felt unheard, unsupported, and overwhelmed with information. Becoming a patient in a broken healthcare system became her greatest teacher. She ran towards functional medicine, and hasn’t looked back!
In an effort to help bridge the gap in healthcare, Justine used her education as a registered nurse to become a holistic nurse and coach. This allowed her to support others on their wellness journey utilizing an integrated approach. Her coaching focuses on ditching the overwhelm, the mind-body connection, nourishing foundations, and realistic lifestyle shifts that profoundly impact overall well-being. Justine firmly believes healing is possible for everyone and is ready to walk confidently by your side!
Brooklynn Monks, Office Manager
Brooklynn was born and raised in Buffalo NY, but moved to the sunshine state back in 2021 where she works remotely as our office manager. She graduated from the University at Buffalo with her Bachelors in Public Health. In addition to more than 10 years’ experience in providing premier customer service, she has furthered her expertise in holistic health and wellness. She was working in conventional medicine when she began her own health journey after struggling with autoimmune symptoms. After being told her anxiety symptoms, chronic fatigue and dizziness was “normal” she dove straight into finding answers on her own. She discovered a ton of her household and beauty products were having a negative impact on her health and decided to ditch and switch all of her products over time. This was when her passion for holistic health started and now she runs non-toxic workshops in her free time. Ever since her passion for holistic wellness was ignited she’s been working side by side with functional medicine providers and health coaches to give their patients an exceptional experience.
